City of Pittsburgh Color Archival Giclee Prints

Pittsburgh is colloquially referred to as the “Golden Triangle”. It is located at the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers whose joining forms the Ohio River at the point. The city features skyscrapers for major Fortune 500 companies such as PNC Bank, U.S. Steel, UPMC, Highmark, American Eagle Outfitters, PPG, Bank of New York Mellon, Heinz Federated Investors and Alcoa to name a few. It is where the fortunes of such industrial barons were made like Andrew Carnegie, Henry Clay Frick, Henry J. Heinz, Andrew Mellon and George Westinghouse. Pittsburgh is nicknamed “The City of Bridges” with nearly 446 bridges in the surrounding city alone.

Steelworker Tribute Color Archival Giclee Prints

‘Steelworker Tribute’ was created to honor the many generations of Pittsburgh steelworkers. Their hard work, dedication & American pride contributed to the industrial might that came to define the Steel City. For the steelworker featured I used a combination of four layered faces to create one image. The faces included a Caucasian, African-American, Asian-American & Native American. Like the very ingredients that were forged into the making of steel, Pittsburgh itself was a melting pot of diverse faces and cultures all working towards a common goal. All of these elements came together to transform the city and region into the ‘Steel Capital of the World’. “Welcome Home Daddy!” Color Archival Giclee Prints

Illustration I created depicting a scene which I’m sure was played out every day at one time in many households across western Pennsylvania for several generations of Pittsburgh’s steelworkers & laborers. The illustration portrays a young father laboring away at the steel mill, whether it was American Bridge Co., Armco, J & L, US Steel or wherever it may have been. At the end of his shift, all that was swept aside and there was nothing more he looked forward to at the end of the day then coming home into the loving arms of his kids and his family.

Pittsburgh has earned a reputation worldwide for its medical schools and pioneering advancements in medicine. The city and region has one of the best hospital systems in the country with UPMC leading at the fore-front.
